Today there are many offers that promise to “fix” your xbox 360 from the 3 red lights. The “towel” trick, along with many others will only damage your xbox further, of force you to replace it. I’ve already sent mine back for service twice and that’s all that MS is offering for free. When it happened a third time I was forced to find my own 3 red light fix.
I spent 3-4 hours looking at all the different programs that promised to have the “3 red light fix” and although the majority of them looked promising, there was only a few that caught my attention. Sure, most offered nice looking ebooks with pictures and all, but I’m a much better student of leaning mechanical stuff when theres video tutorials (try learning Photoshop without videos!)
Out of the two that I purchased, this one clearly did a nice job of explaining exactly how to get the job done:

The Red Ring of Death is the most famous of the Xbox 360 bugs, and sure Microsoft can fix it once or twice for free but when your warranty runs out there is no cheap way to get it fixed, unless you do it yourself (yes, it can be done :))
There’s several different “kits” on the market and most of them will get the job done. With their kit you can have your Xbox 360 running again in about 1 HOUR, for a fraction of the price that Microsoft would charge you. It requires a few household tools and come with a full money back guarantee, and has kept my Xbox working for over a year.
